Faith in the Unseen: Trusting What You Cannot Yet See

Devotional From The Sermon: When We Pray

Rev. Katrina Tatum

Reading:

Isaiah 26:3; 2 Corinthians 5:7

Devotional:

The Shunammite woman’s son was dead. The reality of her situation had not changed when she saddled her donkey and rode toward the man of God. Yet she said, “All is well.” She was not in denial. She was in faith. Isaiah 26:3 promises that God keeps in perfect peace the one whose mind is fixed on him. As followers of Christ, we do not move according to what our eyes see but according to what our faith declares. The storm around you does not have to determine the state within you. Keep your mind fixed on God and receive the peace that guards your heart.

Reflection Questions:

  • In what area of your life are you allowing what you see to override what you believe?
  • How does fixing your mind on God’s character change the way you respond to difficulty?

Practical Application:

Choose one attribute of God (his faithfulness, his power, his love) and meditate on it throughout the day. When anxious thoughts arise, redirect your mind back to that attribute intentionally.
