Come Again: Moving Forward in Faith

Devotional From The Sermon: When We Pray

Rev. Katrina Tatum

Reading:

Genesis 22:1-5; Hebrews 11:17-19

Devotional:

When Abraham told his servants “we will come again,” he was not speaking from certainty about circumstances. He was speaking from certainty about God. The same phrase echoes in the Shunammite woman’s words as she set out to find Elisha. Both Abraham and the Shunammite woman moved forward fully expecting to return, not because the outcome was guaranteed to their eyes, but because they knew the God who holds all outcomes. Hebrews 11 calls this faith “the substance of things hoped for.” You do not need to know how the story ends to take the next faithful step. God does.

Reflection Questions:

  • Is there a situation in your life where fear of the outcome has caused you to stop moving forward in faith?
  • How does knowing God’s character empower you to act before you see the result?

Practical Application:

Identify one step of faith you have been postponing. Commit to taking that step this week, trusting that the God who knew the end from the beginning is already there waiting for you.
