The Seed of Vision

Devotional From The Sermon: Beyond What You Know

Rev. Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu

Reading: Mark 9:14-29

Devotional:

Vision is the seed for living into the possibility of God. Helen Keller once observed that the only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision. It is possible to see everything around you clearly and still be completely blind to what God is doing and where God is leading. The father in Mark 9 came to Jesus with a broken faith and an honest cry, and Jesus met him there. God does not require perfect faith. He requires surrendered faith. When you plant even a small seed of belief in the limitless power of God, it becomes the ground from which extraordinary things grow. Do not despise the smallness of your beginning faith. Offer it to God and watch what he does with it.

Personal Reflection:

  • What vision has God placed in your heart that fear or doubt has caused you to set aside?
  • How does the father’s honest admission of doubt in Mark 9 encourage your own prayer life?

Practical Application: Identify one God-given vision you have allowed to go dormant. Write it down and commit to praying over it daily this week, trusting that God honors faith even when it feels small.
