Sunday Recap 5/17/2026

Youth Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
Present Series: “A HARD EXODUS”

Message: “Passover to Freedom”

Scripture: Exodus 12-14

The story of the Passover in the Bible is very relevant for us today. Common to what many may think, it is not just an ancient story that happened way back then. Rather it is a story of how God continues today to deliver us from our own individual oppressions and bondages. Do not sleep on this story!

The Israelites were slaves to the Egyptians. They found themselves in a hard place, being treated harshly, and so they cry out to God for deliverance, for freedom from their bondage. God hears their cry, sends a deliverer, and begins the process of setting them free.

The Israelites discovered that while freedom was what they desired and what God desired for them, the process would not be easy. It was a hard exodus! In like manner, we cry out to God today, asking to be released from the things/people/bondage that hold us captive. While we desire to be free, and while that freedom is what is best for us, the journey, the “passover” to freedom, can be difficult for us.

It’s hard to let go of the familiar and move into the unknown even when the familiar is harmful to us and for us. Egypt, while not the place the Israelites wanted to be, brought familiarity for them. The Red Sea and beyond represented unfamiliar territory. They were unable to see how they could make it, how God would deliver, and how their life could be different and even better.

The Israelites had to go through a process to gain their freedom (Passover was/is a process). Regardless of our bondage there is a process to freedom. We must pass over fears, habits, insecurities, past failures, past relationships, and our own inner thoughts/mindset. For many, that makes for a hard exodus.

Complete the following activities this week to help reiterate Sunday’s message.

Sun, Read the Passover Story in full, Exodus 12-14.

Mon, Watch “Remember the Passover.” Why is the Passover Story relevant for us today?

Tue, Watch “God Walks Ahead of You.” When we think about being delivered from those things that hold us in bondage, what is one very important lesson we learn from God’s deliverance of the Israelites from Egyptian captivity?

Wed, Watch “Moses Parting the Red Sea.” Why were the Israelites afraid? Why did God part the Red Sea? What do we need to have to receive God’s deliverance?

Thurs, Watch “The Greatest Salvation.” What are some of the struggles, temptations, bondages that pull teens away from Christ today? What are some of the voices they listen to rather than listening to Christ? Whose voices are you listening to? Why should you listen to God’s voice alone?

Fri, Read the Passover Story again, Exodus 12-14. What powerful lessons can teenagers learn from this passage about trusting God in the unknown and about relying on their faith rather than fear when facing “impossible” struggles?

Sat, Listen and meditate on this song, “If the Book of Exodus was a Song…” What bondage do you need to trust God to bring you out of? What idols do God need to break and remove from your life? What deliverance do you need? Surrender all to God. Ask him to bring you out of the house of bondage.

Sunday Recap 5/10/2026

Youth Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
Present Series: “A HARD EXODUS”

TODAY IS MOTHER’S DAY – Happy Mother’s Day

The Bible holds mothers in very high esteem. From the virtuous woman, to other scriptures on mothers in Proverbs (6:20-22; 10:1; 23:22-25), to other Old and New Testament verses, to even God comparing himself to “a mother” in Isaiah 49:15 and Deuteronomy 32:18.

Mothers are incredible, especially mothers of faith. They should be honored every day, and not just on the second Sunday of May.

My prayer is that we take this entire week, month, year, and years to come to honor and love our mothers. If your mother is alive and with you, always show respect and appreciation for her and to her. If you are no longer with your mother, live your life in such a way as to make her proud and to honor the legacy she left behind. Make her proud that she gave birth to you via God’s plan.

Beyond today, discover how God feels about mothers and emulate those feelings!

Complete the following activities this week to help reiterate Sunday’s message.

Sun, Read “So God Made Mothers”. Note the many reasons you should honor your mother.

Mon, Read Proverbs 31:25-30. Describe a woman who fears the Lord. How does the Bible say such a woman should be treated?

Tue, Watch “What Parents Teach Their Children.” What amazing gift has God enabled your mother (parents) to pass on to you?

Wed, Watch “3 John 1:4 Explained.” While these are the words of the Apostle John regarding his spiritual children, how much greater do you believe the words are for a faith-filled mother regarding her physical offspring? How much greater do you believe these words are for your own mother (parents) who want the same thing for you?

Thurs, Read Galatians 5:22. Which of these fruits of the Spirit are most evident in your mom? Share your response with her today and thank her for exemplifying the fruits of the Spirit.

Fri, Read the following verses. 2 Timothy 1:5; Proverbs 23:22-25; John 19:26-27; Proverbs 23:25, 6:20-22; and Deuteronomy 6:6-7. Based on these verses, how would you define a godly mother?

Sat, Watch “Mother’s Day Job Interview.” Is this a job you would apply for, be able to do, or even do in excellence? Why are mom’s so valuable? Go love on your momma right now (or your mother figure).

Sunday Recap 5/3/2026

Youth Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
Present Series: “A HARD EXODUS”

Message: “Did God Do That?”

Scripture: Exodus 7:1-5

Egyptians. Pharaoh. The 10 Plagues of Egypt. 10 False Gods. One God more powerful than any other god, any other person, anything!! The Exodus needed to happen. Why? God needed to show Pharaoh and the Egyptians that he was the Supreme God, the only God. He needed to show the Israelites that they could trust and depend on him to lead and keep them.

Why is this story relevant for you? Our world today still offers gods believed to be more powerful than the God of heaven. Today we worship the god of popularity, the god of fashion and style, the god of substances (alcohol, drugs, vaping, pills, weed), the god of technology/AI, the god of money and power, the god of social status, social media, video gaming, and power. The list goes on. You’re probably thinking or saying, these things are not gods in my life. Don’t be fooled, or foolish.

These gods promise to give you what only God can give you. The story of the 10 plagues should remind us of what God did, and what he will still do today. It should remind us that he should be, and he is, the only real power in our lives.

Take a moment this week to identify your god(s). What person, thing, or habit draws your attention from God. Ask God to reveal to you any “false” gods that are at work in your life. Then ask him to defeat those gods so that the true God is the ruler of your life!

Sunday Recap 4/26/2026

Youth Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
Present Series: “CRAZY FAITH”

Message: “Free to Celebrate”

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:13

Birthdays, graduations, sweet “sixteens”, new jobs, holidays, anniversaries, driver’s license, sport championships, making the sport’s team, winning that next level video game, and so much more! We have a multitude of reasons to celebrate!

Think about it. What are the many things you celebrate? Why do you celebrate? What does it mean to be “Free to Celebrate?”

During slavery, black people did NOT have the freedom to celebrate. Gatherings were restricted, space was non-existent, and any appearance of joy was high-jacked and often punished. To celebrate, had to be done in secret.

But celebrations are a necessary part of living. It contributes to positive mental health, provides needed motivation, and helps to build strong community. Memories are built, identity is established, and confidence is boosted! To be free to celebrate is to be free to grow!

This weekend we celebrated our Pastor’s 14th Pastoral Anniversary and we were quite free to do so! The Bible says we are to “respect those who labor among us and are over us in the Lord.” We are to “esteem them very highly in love because of their work.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:13

There is no greater reason to celebrate than that of love, the love of a pastor for his people, the love of a people for their pastor, and most of all, the love of a God for them both!!

Thurs, As you reflect on the thought, “free to celebrate,” how might your life be impacted most if you could not celebrate at all?

Fri, How do you think God feels about celebrations? Note scriptures like Exodus 12:14, Psalm 118:24, Luke 15:23-24, and Philippians 4:4.

Sat, In what ways do you celebrate what the lord has done through you, around you, and in the world?

Sunday Recap 4/5/2026

Youth Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
Present Series: “CRAZY FAITH”

Message: “Meet Me in Galilee”

Scripture: Matthew 28:1-10

HE HAS RISEN! And he truly is the Christ of a Comeback for all of us!

The Gospel of Matthew, chapter 28 reports that the women went to the tomb to prepare Jesus’ body for burial, only when they got there, there was NO body.

“Don’t be afraid”, the angel said. He is not here. He has risen, just as he said.

Immediately there was fear. There was joy. And quickly there was running. The women ran to share the good news. Today, that good news is shared with you and me. Come meet Jesus in Galilee! Why Galilee? To remind us, to restore us, and to re-commission us for the work we have been called to do.

If you don’t believe he has risen, all is futile. But if you do believe he has risen, all is fruitful and favorable! Do you believe!?

Mon, Watch “Berea Ministries – Matthew 28:1-10.” Have you ever experienced an earthquake? Have you ever gone to the graveyard in the dark? Have you ever lost a loved one? Each of these individual events can be scary by themselves. Now imagine them all happening together in one moment. Describe how you might feel in such a setting.

Tue, Watch “Berea Ministries – Matthew 28:1-10.” How many times were the women told to not be afraid in the video? How does the command to not be afraid speak to the situations in your life that might cause fear?

Wed, What are your thoughts about the resurrection of Jesus from the dead? In your school, or amongst your friends, what do most students believe about the resurrection of Jesus? Is there fear? Joy? Disbelief? Why does our response to the resurrection of Jesus matter?

Thurs, Should the disciples have been surprised that Jesus said, “Meet me in Galilee”? (Read Matthew 26:32) God wants to meet us as well. Should we be surprised? Why does Jesus want to meet you?

Fri, Watch “Monday in the Octave of Easter.” Moving beyond the long white beard (LOL), what is the simple message/teaching of this video? Why Galilee? Where is the Galilee of your life?

Sat, Watch “Forever – Kari Jobe.” Reflect on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Read Matthew 27:11 – 28:1-10. What do you believe about the resurrection of Jesus?

Sunday Recap 3/29/2026

Youth Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
Present Series: “CRAZY FAITH”

March 29, 2026 was another Family Worship experience at BGC!

Pastor Akinbinu continued with the adult theme/focus for the year “Free Indeed.” This month he has been preaching on “Free Indeed: The Christ of a Comeback.” We have been looking at individuals who made a “comeback” through the power of Jesus Christ. This week’s focus is the “comeback” of the demoniac in Mark 5:1-15. This demoniac is unnamed, untamed, and full of shame. He is possessed by a legion of demons and living a life of hell on earth. The beauty in all of this is that Jesus doesn’t leave him in his condition but rather he sets him free, clothes him, and returns him to righteous thinking.

What does this story have to do with you in 2026? Today we possess “legions” of bondage (or rather they possess us). Addictions, trauma, phobias, anxiety, depression, suicidal tendencies, hopelessness, nervousness, promiscuity, shame and despair. We are possessed by the need to perform in excellence by any means necessary, to compete for greatness and power regardless of how we might attain it, and to succeed at any cost.

Road rage is on the rise, cyberbullying is inevitable, and weapons are worn like jewelry. Domestic violence, school violence, world violence are all at an epic high. The words of our modern-day demon ring out loudly, “My name is Legion for we are many.” – Mark 5:9

What does this story have to do with you? It lets you know the authority Jesus has over the one who has you bound. It reminds you that Jesus is able to cast out impure spirits and bring restoration to your life. Jesus is able and willing to set you free and receive you back. He is the Christ of a Comeback for all of us!

Complete the following activities this week to help reiterate Sunday’s message.

Sun, Read Mark 5:1-15

Mon, Watch “Jesus Heals the Demoniac.” Sometimes our lives can be as full of problems as this unnamed man and yet we see the heart of Jesus for him. He intentionally reaches out to this man. What problem could you actually have that would keep Jesus from reaching out to you and restoring you to your “right mind?”

Tue, Watch “Jesus the Chain Breaker.” How many problems do you have? Stop now and present them to Jesus. He is waiting to restore you. Trust him.

Wed, What does the story of “The Demon Possessed Man” teach us about the authority of Christ over our problems and situations, and of his transformative power over our dark places?

Thurs, Watch “Jesus Healing the Gadarene Demoniac.” The Gerasenes were not pleased with what Jesus did. They were more concerned about the money than the man. What does this video demonstrate about the heart of Jesus for this man?

Fri, Who are the “outcasts” or people “living in the tombs” in your school or community today? How can you show them the same compassion Jesus showed this unnamed man?

Sat, Finish the week in worship, prayer, and surrender. Listen to/watch “I Lay It All Down.” Ask God to bring peace to your chaos, restoration to your recklessness, light to your dark places, and deliverance from “legions” of bondage.

Sunday Recap 3/22/2026

Youth Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
Present Series: “CRAZY FAITH”

March 22, 2026 was Family Worship at BGC! Our NextGen Ministry (Discovery Children, Immersion Youth, and our Emerging Adults) all worshipped together in the Multi-Use Facility alongside the adults. Youth and Children led in worship and served as ushers and greeters.

The adult theme/focus for this year is “Free Indeed” and the present sermon series is “Free Indeed: The Christ of A Comeback.” The scripture read was Luke 15:11-24, as we meditated on the subject of “Comeback From Foolish Choices.”

The Prodigal Son was able to make a comeback because of the mercy and love of his father, who represents God the Father and His heart towards us. The son made some very poor choices that left him broke, hungry, and humble. He felt as good as dead in a “far country”, far from the love of his father, but he soon discovered that his father’s love was never distant. His father never quit waiting and looking for him to come back.

Perhaps you too have made some poor choices that have left you feeling far from your heavenly Father. Maybe you even feel so far away from God that you feel you cannot come back. Let this story of the prodigal son encourage you. The Father loves you always, and he is always waiting for you to return back to him. Be encouraged. Your “Comeback” is possible through the love and mercy of God.

Fri, Watch “God is Asking You to Come Back to Him.” What is keeping you from coming back to God? Why might staying away from God be a foolish choice?

Sunday Recap 3/15/2026

Youth Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
Present Series: “CRAZY FAITH”
Message Text: Genesis 22:1-8
Message: “Provision on Purpose”

Have you ever found yourself in a tough situation and you had no idea how you were going to get out of it? You had no idea of what the outcome was going to be. No idea of how to solve the situation, no idea how you got there in the first place, AND, even if you knew how you got there, now you’re torn as to what to do next. You may even be asking, “Lord, where are you? What are you doing?”

Maybe it’s a situation where you saw something you wish you hadn’t seen and now, you’re in a position of “see something, say something”, but you really don’t want to get involved at all. Maybe it’s a situation where you’re called to tell the truth, but you don’t want to be known as a snitch. Maybe you’ve just gotten to this place where you’re really fitting in. You’ve got new friends. You’re right where you want to be, only your new friends are exhibiting behaviors that give you reason to pause.

As a Christian teen, and even as a Christian adult, sometimes it’s just more comfortable to bow, be silent, and go with the flow rather than stand up and say no. But you know God is calling you. He wants to grow you, to get more out of you, to draw you closer to the image of himself. This is where Abraham finds himself in our story today AND this is where WE, as we walk with God, will find ourselves as well. What can we learn from Abraham today?

As God calls us to trials, he is simultaneously calling us to trust him.

As he moves us to the uncomfortable, he is ultimately unfolding his unique character to us.

And just as he purposefully made provision on Mt Moriah for Abraham, he has also purposefully made provision for us on Calvary.

Fri, Watch “From Trials to Triumph.” What “stepping stones” have you experienced in your life? Trials, hard times, that have helped you grow? Remember “it’s not about the setback, it’s about the comeback.” How have problems helped you to come back stronger?

Sunday Recap 3/8/2026

Youth Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
Present Series: “CRAZY FAITH”
Message Text: Genesis 17:1-4, 17-19
Message: “Promise Without Proof”

As we continued in our new series today, “Crazy Faith”, we continued our story of Abraham who was called by God to leave his country, his relatives, and his father’s family. In today’s message Abraham is promised by God that he would have his own son. Abraham is 99 years old and becomes a father at 100 years of age. His wife Sarah, who is unable to have children, bears him a son when she is 90 years old. Wow!!

Abraham had to wait a long time for God’s promise to manifest, and the only real proof he had for the promise was God’s word and his own faithfulness. God had given Abraham everything he needed. Everything was already inside him. As Abraham was waiting, God was working, working to perfect Abraham’s faith. Abraham had to make a decision that he would trust God’s character over his own competence.

It is the same way with us today. We have to wait. We have to trust. And we have to know that God has given us everything we need to honor him. So, what are you praying for, and what are you waiting for God to do in your life? Maybe it’s to give you friends, help you fit in where YOU think you belong, stop the bullies, help with the job, get you into the college of your choice, make you prettier or more handsome, or smart. Maybe even make you well, make you “normal” as some might say.

Whatever it is you are asking for, whatever you are waiting for God to do, I invite you today to trust him, to know he is working on your behalf as you wait, and, that he is building character and faith in you. God is perfecting you for HIS greater glory.

Tue, Watch “Brandi’s Story.” Though your story may not be Brandi’s, what are some events that have happened in your life that make it hard for you to trust God?

Wed, Watch “Why It’s a Good Thing When God Says No.” Is it ALWAYS a good thing when God says, “No?” Explain why (in your own words). Are their examples in your own life of when God said, “no, or wait?” How has that worked for you? How has it effected your trust in him?

  • Present Series: “CRAZY FAITH”
  • Message Text: Genesis 12:1-3
  • Message: “Going Without Knowing”

While we may not have coined the phrase, we did decide to borrow it from Pastor Mike Todd of Transformation Church. Pastor Todd defines the term “Crazy Faith” as “Thoughts and actions that lack human logic but trust fully in God’s promises.” This is exactly what we see in the stories of Abraham and of Moses.

As we began our new series today, we looked at the call of Abraham by God, and we discussed what it is like to step out of your comfort zone, trust God, and realize that we are not the end all, be all, in the work God wants to do in the world.

How might God be calling you to step out of your comfort zone at school, in class, around your peers, or within your community? Pray with him this week as you complete the assignments below and trust that he will answer.

Sunday Recap 2/15/2026

  • Youth Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
  • Present Series: “Once Upon a Time”
  • Message: “From Building to Babbling”
  • Scripture: Genesis 11:1-9

The Tower of Babel. Have you heard the story before? A story about a bunch of God’s people having multiplied themselves after the flood. Noah’s people. Shem, Ham, and Japeth. The Bible says many children were born to these boys after the great flood. God gave them all instructions. “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth.”

And yet in our story today we find that they have decided to settle in the land of Babylonia. Against God’s will, they decide to build a tower, make a name for themselves, and be famous in one location. God, having compassion and mercy on them, knows that this is not a good choice for them. As an act of love, He confuses their language in such a way that they no longer understand one another. As a result of this, the people go from building to babbling. They have no choice now but to disperse and populate the earth as God instructed.

So, what’s in this story for you and me. God is always with us. He will always want what is best for us. We should never want to make a name for ourselves apart from God. Besides, he has already given each of us a name. We are his, Am Segulah (treasured people), and his Banim (children). Anytime we try to make a name for ourselves apart from God, we are headed down the wrong path. We are headed towards sin and failure.

We must be careful about trying to make a name for ourselves. God has much better in store for all of us; therefore, it would behoove you and me to follow his plan and not our own!

Sunday Recap 2/8/2026

  • Youth Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
  • Present Series: “Once Upon a Time”
  • Message: “Wipe Out”
  • Scripture: Genesis 6:5-8

For those of you who have heard this story, you may know it by the title, “The Story of Noah’s Ark” or maybe, “The Story of the Great Flood” or “The Flood Story of the Bible”. Today we discussed it as, “Wipe Out.” We also discussed it as a “Baptism Fail” with the “fail” being on the part of the people and not on the part of God. God wiped out the earth but not in its entirety. He washed it, baptized it, removed some of its impurities, and with great care he re-fashioned it again.

We learn that God, during the flood, showed himself to be “The Potter.” He was working on humanity, his masterpiece, with great focus, concern, intensity, and love. He is doing the same thing today. Evil is as great today, 2026, as it was over 4500 years ago when Noah built the Ark in obedience to God.

In conjunction with the “Beyond Sunday Assignments” this week, take time to watch “Making a Classic Clay Pot on a Potter’s Wheel.” This is a beautiful display of how God is working on us. Notice the molding, the forming, the water, the tools, the precision, the care, the patience, the focus, the creativity, the speed of the wheel, and especially notice the last 10 seconds or so of the video. God is the Potter. We are clay.

Sunday Recap 2.1.2026

  • Youth Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
  • Present Series: “Once Upon a Time”
  • Message: “Bad Boys”
  • Scripture: Genesis 4:1-15

Bad boys, bad boys. Whatcha’ gonna do? Whatcha’ gonna do when they come for you?

These words are the chorus to songwriter Ian Lewis’ song, “Bad Boys.” Lewis wrote the song to “chronicle the journey of a misguided youth turning to a life of crime.” In the song, he warns teenagers of the consequences of bad choices, of becoming aggressive as they start to grow up and make turns in life that are wrong. Before they know it, they’ve lost their way. Take the time to listen to the lyrics of Ian’s song here.

The song is the story of young Cain in the Bible. Cain was a “bad boy” who made bad choices. Exactly as the lyrics of Ian’s song state, Cain, “acting like a bloody fool” kills his brother Abel. Ian’s lyrics go on to say, “If you get hot, you must get cool.”

God says to Cain in the story, “If you get hot, you must get cool.” God tells Cain, “Sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.” Unfortunately, Cain did not heed God’s advice and evil entered his heart to master him.

God knows our hearts. He knows our motives. He continues to love us and is merciful to us in the midst of our bad choices. He shows mercy to Cain. He loves Cain and wants Cain to give his very best. Despite all this Cain must pay the consequences of his choices.

There are consequences to every action we take. Giving God our best, from the heart, results in God being pleased, and our relationships with God and others are strong. Making bad choices on the other hand separates us from God and from those who love us most. My prayer is that we would not be “bad boys” but rather sons and daughters of God.

Thurs, Watch “The Story of Cain and Abel.” What did God mean when he said sin crouches at the door? Sin is always trying to find space in our hearts. What is one thing you will do, practically, to make sure sin does not enter in?

Fri, Our actions always have consequences. What were the consequences of the actions of both Cain and Abel in the Genesis 4 story?

Sat, Watch “Your Actions Have Consequences.” Who are you when no one is watching? What would God say about your integrity?

Sunday Recap 1.25.2026

  • Youth Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
  • Present Series: “Once Upon a Time”
  • Adult Series: “Free Indeed”
  • Family Worship Message: “Free for Righteous Flourishing”

Due to the inclement weather this weekend, all services were virtual. Rev. Adrienne Morgan shared the Sunday message. The title of the message was, “Free for Righteous Flourishing.” The scripture text was Psalm 92:12, 13. Psalm 92 is a very short chapter, so feel free to read it in its entirety. You can also watch the message here.

Fourth Sundays at Baptist Grove are designated as Family Worship Sundays and as God would have it, Sunday, January 25th was a “Gode-made” family worship experience for us all.

What does it mean to flourish? It means to not only grow, but to thrive and to prosper, to move beyond doing good to doing well. Spiritually, it is a work of the Master Gardener, God. To flourish righteously, means to go beyond budding and to actually take on a vigor. to your budding, to take on the righteousness of Christ. It should be the desire of every Christian. And it may look different for each Christian.

Check out this video summary from Minister Jordan, our NextGen Minister at BGC.

I hope you are ready to flourish!!

Sun, Read Psalm 92. Continue your daily Consecration and Bible Reading Planthis week.

Mon, Read Deuteronomy 6:5. At Millbrook High School, the Varsity Girls Basketball Team created a T-shirt with the caption, “All In” on it. The caption means giving everything you have in order to be both the best individual and team player. It looked like getting up early, working out late, running extra drills, working long on those free-throws, watching team footage, and simply being committed to doing whatever it takes to be the best. What does it “look like” to be “all-in” spiritually?

Tue, Name some sacrifices you have made, can make, or are already making to enable you to flourish spiritually.

Wed, As you may know from experience, flourishing in God is not easy. There are haters, naysayers, and even that small voice in your head that says, “No. You can’t do it.” What solutions or suggestions do we find in Psalm 1:1, 2 that can help us flourish in Christ despite the negative voices we hear?

Thurs, What does it mean to flourish spiritually? What are the benefits of flourishing in God?

Fri, Flourishing requires patience and trust in God. Read Isaiah 40:28-31. Have you ever been in a hurry to get somewhere? Ever exhausted by a long car ride or road trip, thinking you’re never going to make it? Ever tried to build muscle, learn a dance routine, make a new friend, all to no avail? Have you ever tried to memorize scripture, prepare to pray, or read your bible without becoming distracted? How might Isaiah 40:28-31 encourage you in the waiting? Who does the work? Remember to wait on God and seek him.

Sat, Name three things you have discovered this week about flourishing or prospering in God.

Sunday Recap 1.18.2026

  • Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
  • Series: “Once Upon a Time”
  • Message: “On My Life”
  • Scripture: Genesis 3:15

People make promises every day. Many would agree that making promises is a natural part of life. It’s what we do, and we do it with great ease simply by opening our mouths. We do it as an assurance, to assure ourselves or to reassure others. We do it to impress people, and we do it to get what we want in the moment. Sometimes our promises are spoken sincerely with the best intentions, and other times they are spoken with a strong awareness that we are speaking lies and deception.

Humans speak, humans lie, humans fall short all the time. God on the other hand speaks. God tells the truth, and God NEVER falls short of his promises. In fact, we have this assurance from 2 Corinthians 1:20, NLT, “For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.”

We see God’s very first promise being made in the Book of Genesis, Genesis 3:15, ESV, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” In God’s act of grace and love he promises to restore Adam and Eve (humanity) to the freedom they were meant to share with him eternally prior to their disobedience, prior to the listening of the lies of the deceiver. God fulfilled that promise through the death, burial, and resurrection of his son, our Savior, Jesus. Every promise of God has been fulfilled in Christ!! Amen!

Sunday Recap 1.11.2026

  • Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
  • Series: “Once Upon a Time”
  • Message: “I’ve Fallen and I Can’t Get Up”
  • Scripture: Genesis 3:6

Have you ever fallen and needed help getting up? Have you ever felt so far removed from God that you were filled with shame? Have you ever tried to hide from God because of something you had done? Have you ever thought, “There is no way God could love someone like me? Have you ever regretted a mess up and needed a do over?

If your answer to any of these questions is “yes” then you can perhaps relate to what Adam and Eve are feeling in our story for today. Following self-desire rather than God’s desire, listening to the voice of the accuser rather than the wisdom of the Father, and operating in accordance with pride instead of humility lead Adam and Eve into “the fall” of their life. They had fallen and could not get up.

What happens when we mess up so bad, or when we “repeat an offense” over and over again? Where is God in those moments? Beloved, he is right there reaching out to you, ready to give you a hand up, and ready to restore the freedom you once experienced.

Kick your pride to the curve and don’t bother trying to hide. God sees you. God still loves you (so much). God has already planned for your return.

Sunday Recap 01.04.2026

  • Theme for Year: “HIS:STORY” – 1 Corinthians 10:11
  • Series: “Once Upon a Time”
  • Message: “Free Spirit”
  • Scripture: Genesis 1:26, 27

26 “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:26, 27 ESV

“Once upon a time…” is the classic opening line for many a good stories. This year, it is also the “opening line” for our first series of the year. This year we focus on “His:story”, God’s story, the history of God’s love and redemptive work for humanity from beginning to end, from the Book of Genesis to the Book of Revelation. With each bible story we read, we see God’s love and his gift of freedom to his people.

In the opening stories of the Bible, we read that God made man in his image and in his likeness to have dominion over the fish, the fowl, the livestock, the wild animals, and all the creatures that move along the ground. This means God made man in his character, to function like him, and to rule animals and plant life, not people. For humanity, who was created to be a free spirit, to live in any other way, is for humanity to be out of character, dysfunctional, and bound by their own behavior.

God created us to be free. This year let’s learn the his:story. Let’s look at God’s plan to move humanity (us) back to its freedom!
