Sermon Series: The Christ of a Comeback

Sermon Title: A Comeback From Foolish Choices

Reading: Psalm 16:1-11

Devotional: “The Foolishness of Distance”

The prodigal’s tragedy wasn’t just leaving home—it was believing life could be found apart from the Father. Many sit in church while their hearts dwell in far countries, treating God as merely a blessing dispenser rather than the blessing Himself. Life, peace, joy, and purpose are found in connection with God, not in what we can get from Him.

When we distance ourselves from the Father, we fund our foolishness with His resources and build sandcastles that storms will destroy. The “until” moment will come—until sickness, loss, or hardship reveals what we’re truly standing on. Don’t wait for the famine. Choose today to build your life on the solid foundation of relationship with God.

Reflection:

  • Are there any “far countries” in your heart—places where you want God’s gifts but not His guidance or presence? What do those look like for you right now
  • When hardship comes (or has come), what does it reveal about what you’ve been building your life on? Where is God inviting you to shift from sand to solid rock?
