The Lifter of Your Head
Devotional From The Sermon: The Anxiety-Free Life: Throwing Your Cares on the One Who Cares
Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu
Reading: Psalm 3:1-8
Devotional:
David writes from a place of overwhelming opposition—many foes, many voices declaring there is no help for him. Yet in the midst of this darkness, he proclaims a powerful truth: “You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.” When life’s burdens bow you down, when the weight of circumstances threatens to crush your spirit, God specializes in lifting heads. He doesn’t wait for your situation to change; He changes your perspective in the midst of it. Today, acknowledge the areas where you feel defeated. Then declare with David that God is your shield and the lifter of your head. Let Him raise your eyes from your problems to His promises.
Reflection:
- When you’re discouraged, what do you typically lift your head with—distraction, achievement, people, denial—rather than God Himself?
- How has God “lifted your head” in a past season? How might remembering that shape your perspective right now?
