Identity Found in Him
Devotional From The Sermon: The Anxiety-Free Life: Peace Found at His Feet
Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu
Reading: Romans 8:14-17; 1 John 3:1
Devotional:
Jesus called Martha’s name twice—not in condemnation, but in liberation. Her identity had become entangled with her performance, her hosting, her serving. When our identity is displaced from Christ, anxiety fills the void. But God will not leave you with misplaced identity. You are His child, His beloved, His own. Your worth isn’t determined by accomplishments, possessions, or others’ approval. It’s secured in your baptism, your union with Christ. Before you do anything for God, you must know who you are in God. The enemy wants you to find identity in trivial things that shift and fade. But Christ offers an unshakeable identity: you belong to Him. Today, speak this truth over yourself: “I am a child of God.”
Reflection:
- What roles, achievements, or opinions of others have you secretly been using to define your worth?
- How does believing “I am a child of God” practically change the way you respond to failure, criticism, or pressure?
