Dwelling in the Secret Place

Devotional From The Sermon: The Anxiety-Free Life: Living Under God’s Protection

Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu

Reading: Psalm 91:1-4

Devotional:

To dwell in the secret place of the Most High means to make God your permanent residence, not just a temporary shelter. Like a parent who installs car seats, baby monitors, and safety gates to protect their children, our Heavenly Father watches over us with even greater care. The Hebrew word for “dwell” implies continuous habitation. Not occasional visits, but constant abiding. When we choose to live in intimate relationship with God through prayer, worship, and obedience, we position ourselves under His protective wings.

Today, examine where you truly dwell. Are you merely visiting God in crisis, or have you made Him your dwelling place? His faithfulness becomes your shield when you remain in His presence. The protection promised isn’t for casual acquaintances but for those who abide continuously in His love.

Reflection:

  • In what practical ways (habits, rhythms, choices) does your life currently show that God is your “dwelling place” rather than just a place you visit in crisis?
  • What is one specific change you can make this week in prayer, worship, or obedience to more fully “abide” under God’s protective wings?
