Stay Under the Covering

Devotional From The Sermon: The Anxiety-Free Life: Living Under God’s Protection

Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu

Reading: Matthew 4:1-11; Ephesians 6:10-18

Devotional:

Satan attempted to use Psalm 91 to manipulate Jesus into leaving God’s covering. The devil’s strategy hasn’t changed. He still tries to lure us from under God’s protection through presumption, disobedience, or self-reliance. God’s promise of protection is conditional: it’s for those who dwell in Him, who cling to Him in love, who keep His commandments. Righteousness is its own breastplate.

When you remove the armor of obedience, you expose yourself to the enemy’s attacks and then wonder why God’s promises seem ineffective. The issue isn’t God’s faithfulness; it’s our position. Are you under His covering or have you wandered out from under His wings? Today, examine your obedience. Are you staying in God’s will or have you taken Satan’s bait? Return to your dwelling place. Put on the full armor. Stay under the shadow of the Almighty where His promises are activated.

Reflection:

  • Are there any areas of your life right now where you’ve “stepped out” from under God’s covering through compromise, disobedience, or self-reliance? Be specific.
  • What is one concrete act of obedience you can take today to “put the armor back on” and intentionally remain under the shadow of the Almighty?
