Sermon Series: The Christ of a Comeback

Sermon Title: A Comeback From Foolish Choices

Reading: Psalm 51:1-17

Devotional: “Coming to Yourself”

“He came to himself” marks the turning point in the prodigal’s story. Sometimes we must hit rock bottom before we wake up to reality. The enemy wants you stuck in shame, believing you’ve gone too far, done too much, or been gone too long. But shame is a liar. It says you are defined by your worst decisions. God’s truth says you are defined by His love.

Repentance isn’t about rehearsing perfect speeches or performing sufficient penance—it’s simply turning around and heading home. The Father doesn’t require you to have it all together before you return. He meets you while you’re still a long way off, still smelling like the far country, still carrying the consequences of your choices. Today is your day to come to yourself and come home.

Reflection:

  • What lies of shame have you believed about yourself (e.g., “I am my mistake,” “I’m too far gone”)? How do those lies contradict what God declares about you in Christ?
  • What would “coming to yourself and coming home” look like in practice today—a prayer, a confession, a decision, a conversation, or a change in direction?
