Confession and Community: Healing Happens Together
Devotional From The Sermon: Healing Prayers
Rev. Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu
Reading: James 5:16
Devotional:
Suppression is not strength. Carrying hidden pain, unconfessed sin, and unspoken grief in silence does not make you more resilient. It makes you more vulnerable. What you refuse to release has a way of slowly binding you from the inside. God designed the community of faith not as a gathering of people who perform spiritual health, but as a body where real people carry real burdens together. Confession is not weakness. It is the courageous act of trusting both God and God’s people with the truth of where you are. When you open your mouth and release what you have been holding, you create space for prayer, intercession, and genuine healing to take place.
Personal Reflection:
- Is there something you have been suppressing that needs to be brought into the light through honest confession?
- Do you have a trusted member of your faith community with whom you can pray and be honest about your struggles?
Practical Application: Identify one person in your church community whom you trust. This week, reach out to that person and ask them to pray with you about something you have been carrying privately. Take one step toward authentic Christian community.
