Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

Devotional From The Sermon: Consistent Love

Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu

Reading: Psalm 139:13-18

Devotional:

Genuine love for yourself is not arrogance. It is not self-promotion. It is the quiet and settled confidence that comes from knowing you were made by God, on purpose, with care. When others have denigrated you, belittled you, or withheld love from you, it can be difficult to look in the mirror and believe that you have worth. But the psalmist does not anchor his self-understanding in the opinions of others. He anchors it in the character of the God who made him. Today, resist the voices, internal and external, that tell you that you are less than what God says you are. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, and that is not a cliche. It is the word of the living God.

Reflection:

  • Whose voice have you been listening to when it comes to your sense of worth?
  • How does Psalm 139 challenge or reframe that voice?
