God’s Rhythm Over Algorithms

Devotional From The Sermon: The Anxiety-Free Life: The Anxiety of Advancement

Min. Jordan DeVeaux

Reading: Matthew 11:28-30

Devotional:

Jesus offers an invitation that defies our culture’s frantic pace: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Algorithms demand constant engagement, pushing you to keep up, stay relevant, never fall behind. But God’s rhythm is different. It includes Sabbath, seasons of waiting, and divine timing that often feels slow by worldly standards. You’re a human being, not a human doing. The anxiety of advancement promises fulfillment but delivers exhaustion. Jesus promises something better: a yoke that is easy and a burden that is light. Exchange the crushing weight of self-made achievement for the gentle guidance of the Good Shepherd. In His rhythm, you’ll find the peace your soul craves.

Reflection:

  1. Where in your life do you feel most “heavy laden” by the pressure to keep up, and how might Jesus’ easy yoke speak to that area?
  2. What practical change to your schedule or device use can you make this week to more fully live by God’s rhythm instead of algorithms?
