Humble Surrender

Devotional From The Sermon: The Anxiety-Free Life: Throwing Your Cares on the One Who Cares

Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu

Reading: 1 Peter 5:5-11

Devotional:

Peter connects humility directly with casting our anxieties on God. Pride says, “I must carry this burden; admitting I can’t handle it is weakness.” Humility says, “This is too heavy for me, but not for God.” The act of releasing our cares to God is not defeat—it’s recognition of reality. We were never designed to carry life’s weights alone. When we grip tightly to our problems, believing only we can solve them, we’re essentially saying our hands are more capable than God’s mighty hand. Today, identify what you’re clutching in pride. What burden are you afraid to release because it means admitting you can’t control the outcome? Write it down, and in an act of humility, surrender it to the God who cares for you.

Reflection:

  • How do you usually respond when you feel out of control—do you grasp tighter, plan more, worry more, or withdraw?
  • What would it mean for you to say, “God, I cannot carry this, but You can,” and actually live as if that were true this week?
