It Is Well: Peace That Holds Through Every Outcome

Devotional From The Sermon: When We Pray

Reading: 2 Kings 4:8-37; Romans 8:28

Devotional:

Horatio Spafford lost his son, his fortune, and all four of his daughters. Yet from the depths of that grief, he penned words that have carried millions of believers through their darkest hours. “It is well with my soul.” This was not the language of a man untouched by pain. It was the language of a man anchored in the unchanging nature of God. Romans 8:28 does not promise that all things will feel good. It promises that God works all things together for the good of those who love him. The Shunammite woman’s son was restored. But even if he had not been, the God she trusted would have remained faithful. Our peace does not rest on the outcome. It rests on the one who holds every outcome in his hands. He is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore.
