It Is Well With My Soul
Devotional From The Sermon: The Anxiety-Free Life: Living Under God’s Protection
Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu
Reading: Romans 8:31-39; 2 Corinthians 4:7-10
Devotional:
“It is well” isn’t a statement about your circumstances. It’s a declaration about your Keeper. You can have tears in your eyes and still say “it is well” because weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning. You can be persecuted, crushed, perplexed, even driven to despair, yet not destroyed because you carry the death of Jesus so His life can be manifest in you. No weapon formed against you shall prosper. Not some weapons. NO weapon.
This is the anxiety-free life: not a life without trouble, but a life with unshakeable confidence in the One who covers you. Your help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip; He who watches over you neither slumbers nor sleeps. Today, regardless of what you face, make this declaration: “It is well with my soul.” Not because everything is perfect, but because your Protector is faithful. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.
Reflection:
-
If you honestly described your soul today, would you say “it is well”? Why or why not? And what does that reveal about whether your focus is on circumstances or on your Keeper?
-
Which truth from Romans 8:31-39 or 2 Corinthians 4:7-10 do you most need to cling to so you can declare “it is well” in the middle of what you’re facing right now?
