Life Is a Vapor: Trust the God Who Holds the Future

Devotional From The Sermon: Healing Prayers

Rev. Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu

Reading: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Devotional:

Circumstances are not a reliable foundation. They shift without warning, change without permission, and often move in directions we never anticipated. A person can be at the height of their health one season and fighting for their life the next. A relationship that felt permanent can dissolve. A career that seemed secure can disappear. This is not pessimism. This is the honest reality of life in a fallen and fragile world. But here is the anchor: while your circumstances are unpredictable, your God is not. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. You do not need to know what the future holds when you know and trust the One who holds it.

Personal Reflection:

  • In what area of your life have you been placing your confidence in circumstances rather than in God?
  • How does knowing that God is already present in your future change the way you face uncertainty today?

Practical Application: Write down one fear about the future that has been troubling you. Beneath it, write out what you know to be true about the character of God. Read both aloud and choose, by faith, to trust what you know over what you fear.
