Sermon Series: The Christ of a Comeback
Sermon Title: A Comeback from Death
Reading: John 11:38-44
“Remove the stone,” Jesus commanded. Martha resisted: “But Lord, it stinks!” We do the same—keeping Jesus out of our messiest places because we’re ashamed of the smell. We hide our addictions, mask our pain, cover our failures with spiritual perfume. But Jesus doesn’t ask for your opinion about the smell; He commands you to remove the stone. He wants access to your stinky places—your bitterness, your secret sins, your emotional wounds, your deepest shame. You cannot experience resurrection while keeping the tomb sealed. Freedom requires vulnerability before God. Stop trying to clean yourself up first. Let Jesus into the decay, the darkness, the disappointment. When you remove the stone and grant Him access, miracles happen. Liberation begins when you stop hiding and start surrendering.
Reflection Question: What “stone” is blocking Jesus from the broken, hidden areas of your life?
