Description:

Stephen Ministry is a caregiving ministry that prepares laypersons to provide emotional and spiritual support to others who are experiencing various life challenges. Common life challenges include (but are not limited to): grief, major medical crises, hospice/end-of-life care, divorce/break-up, and family difficulties.

After joining the ministry, Stephen Ministers receive 50 hours of initial training to provide quality confidential, one-on-one Christian care to a care receiver. Stephen Ministers meet with care receivers on a weekly basis. On a monthly basis, Stephen Ministers meet with Stephen Ministry Leaders for supervision and continuing education.

To inquire about joining our ministry, email us at care@baptistgrovechurch.org. Please note that to join, there is an application process which includes an interview and background check.

Stephen Ministry is broken into three groups:

Stephen Leaders are congregation members who recruit and train Stephen Ministers, match care receivers with Stephen Ministers, and provide Stephen Ministers with ongoing supervision and continuing education.

Stephen Ministers are BGC members who have gone through 10 weeks of intense training on how to provide care, listen well, encourage, pray with, and connect their care receivers to the right level of care.

Care Receivers are hurting adults (18+) who receive one-on-one care from a Stephen Minister as they go through their valley. The relationship between a Stephen Minister and care receiver is completely confidential. Male care receivers are matched with male Stephen Ministers, and female care receivers with female Stephen Ministers.
