Surrender and the New Beginning

Devotional From The Sermon: You Produce What You Ponder

Rev. Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu

Reading: Psalm 51:10

Devotional:

David wrote this prayer from the lowest point of his moral life. He had sinned gravely, attempted to cover it, and failed. Yet rather than staying at the thermostat of self-management, he went to the source. The word used for create in this prayer is the same Hebrew word, bara, used in Genesis 1:1 when God created the heavens and the earth. David was not asking for a patch or a repair. He was asking for an act of divine creation. That same creative power is available to you today. Surrender is not weakness. It is the wisest and bravest thing a person can do. You do not have to have it all together to come. You simply have to come.

Personal Reflection:

Is there an area of your life where you have been managing the thermostat instead of surrendering the entire system to God?

Practical Application: Pray David’s prayer in Psalm 51:10 slowly and personally, pausing after each phrase to allow God to speak to the specific condition of your heart. Then make one concrete decision today that reflects surrender rather than self-reliance.
