The Good Portion That Lasts

Devotional From The Sermon: The Anxiety-Free Life: Peace Found at His Feet

Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu

Reading: John 6:27-35; Matthew 11:28-30

Devotional:

Jesus contrasted Martha’s temporary food with Mary’s eternal nourishment: “Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” The good portion isn’t always the biggest portion. The world offers a buffet of options, but Jesus offers quality over quantity—life abundant and peace surpassing understanding. The simple life costs everything yet costs you nothing, because Jesus already paid the price. What you lay down in surrender, He replaces with something far better. Come to Him weary and heavy-laden; find rest for your soul. The peace you’ve been chasing through achievement, control, and busyness is freely offered at His feet. Today, accept His invitation: lay down your anxieties, take up His peace, and choose the good portion that will never be taken from you.

Reflection:

  • Where have you been seeking satisfaction and peace—“buffet” options of the world—instead of the lasting nourishment of Jesus’ presence and Word?
  • What specific anxiety, burden, or form of busyness will you lay down at Jesus’ feet today in exchange for His rest and peace?
