The Power of His Name

Devotional From The Sermon: The Anxiety-Free Life: Living Under God’s Protection

Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu

Reading: Acts 4:8-12; Philippians 2:9-11

Devotional:

When enemies call you out of your name, don’t respond in kind. Call on THE Name. There is power in the name of Jesus that transcends every earthly weapon. The early church didn’t fight with political influence or physical force; they fought with the name that causes demons to tremble and every knee to bow. Knowing His name isn’t merely intellectual knowledge, it’s intimate relationship. It means you’ve experienced His character as Jehovah Nissi (the Lord who fights), Jehovah Shalom (the Lord our peace), and Jehovah Rapha (the Lord who heals). When you call upon His name, you’re not getting a busy signal or voicemail. He inclines His ear and answers. Today, practice spiritual warfare correctly. Don’t curse back, don’t retaliate. Call on the Name above all names. Let that name be your defense, your weapon, and your victory.

Reflection:

  • When you’re attacked, misunderstood, or provoked, what is your usual first response? And what does that reveal about where you’re placing your trust?
  • Which aspect of His name/character (Nissi, Shalom, Rapha, Savior, etc.) do you most need to call on in this season, and how will you practically do that in moments of pressure?
