Thinking on What Is True
Devotional From The Sermon: You Produce What You Ponder
Rev. Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu
Reading: Philippians 4:6-8
Devotional:
Peace is not simply the absence of trouble. It is the active guarding of the heart and mind by God himself. The sermon draws a critical connection between these verses, noting that Paul does not stop at peace but moves immediately to the discipline of thought. A peaceful heart produces thoughts worthy of praise. A troubled heart produces thoughts that are untrue. Like the disciples who saw Jesus walking on water and concluded it must be a ghost, a troubled heart colors in the image incorrectly. Today, let the peace of God stand guard at the door of your mind. Not every thought that enters deserves to stay.
Personal Reflection:
Which of your current recurring thoughts would not pass the test of being true, honorable, pure, or praiseworthy?
Practical Application: For one full day, pause before dwelling on a negative thought and ask: is this true, or is this anxiety speaking? Replace each failing thought with a declaration of God’s character.
