Description:

Do you love spending time with and discipling the youngest members of God's family? BGC Discovery Kids Ministry is looking for volunteers to support our growing ministry! Join this incredibly dedicated team that delights in helping our BGC children experience the love of Jesus, love him deeply in return, and grow in their faith. There are several opportunities for involvement - on Sunday mornings and beyond! (Volunteers must pass a background check and attend a short training session before working in the Toddler Room.)

Purpose:

The mission of the BGC Discovery Children's Ministry is to help children discover who God is through the story of the Bible.Keep your Creator in mind while you are young!” (Ecclesiastes 12:1)

Sunday Service Volunteer Roles

Most Discovery volunteers serve once per month, 9:15am-12:15pm*. 

*End time is contingent upon the end of church service. Volunteers leave when all children have been picked up.

 

Role, Description, & Spiritual + Other Gifts
  • Check In - Assist members and guests with check-in of children and youth for worship service utilizing the online check-in application on church-issued devices. This position serves on Sundays from 9:45-10:45am.
    • Hospitality, Administration, Technology

 

  • Classroom Teachers - Teach Bible stories and lead engaging activities to children. Classrooms are divided by age group: Toddlers (1-3 yo), Pre-K (4-5 yo), and Elementary (K-5th grade).
    • Teaching, Wisdom, Creativity

 

  • Assistant Classroom Teachers - Supports the lead teachers in various capacities, including activity and material support, individual student support, and overall classroom management. Classrooms are divided by age group: Pre-K/K (4-5 yo), and Elementary (1st-5th grade).
    • Serving, Administration, Leadership

 

  • Crossover Leaders - Builds relationships and disciples 4th and 5th grade students. Facilitates discussions aligned with weekly scripture, while providing guidance, support and graciously managing behavioral dynamics.
    • Teaching, Pastoring, Exhortation

 

  • A/V - Manages all audio/visual in the elementary classroom. Sets up all electronics needed for service operations including laptop, desktop, iPads, Android tablets, projector, speakers, microphones, walkie-talkies and check-in printers. Troubleshoots issues as needed.

Additional Volunteer Roles

The following Discovery volunteer roles are needed on an ad-hoc basis and typically do not serve during Sunday services.

  • Event Planners - Works collaboratively with Discovery Leaders to plan fellowship, service, and special events for Discovery children and families.
    • Hospitality, Administration, Mercy

 

  • Recruiters - Collaborate with church staff to initiate and execute recruitment efforts. Engage with church members to recruit volunteers. 
    • Hospitality, Evangelism, Discernment

 

  • Childcare + Special Events - Provides childcare for children of parents who attend BGC-wide events. Childcare volunteers are not required to teach lessons, but rather monitor safety of children and facilitate pre-planned games/activities. This position serves typically on evenings and Saturdays.

Requirements/Process to Serve: 
  • Have a heart and passion for children!
  • Pass a background check.
  • You will be able to shadow another volunteer in the role in which you are interested. Training for each position happens while serving.
  • Attend initial Volunteer Onboarding Meeting (1x).
  • Attend quarterly Discovery volunteer meetings.
